Why Belize is not for sale ?

Belize is a land of freedom open to everybody, a country of different cultures where immigration is part of its history.

But Belize should not become a supermarket for winter / second homes.

What happens when inactive people buy land to live a few months of the year ?

They feed speculation and, as a result, land is no longer accessible to locals.

Prices in general rise and the cost of living increases.

This brings about the destruction of the community: no projects, no economic and social concerns, no long term activity.

The American consumerist way of life is just a question of possession [and pollution?]: the thing that matters is to own something that others don’t have or to join those who already do have.

Unfortunately, a sense of integration and respect for local culture does not come automatically with the land!

Large corporations and rich families have always owned a big piece of the country. Now the people have acquired a part, but they lack a social and economic vision for the future. Their only option is to sell the bit they own to capitalist investors from abroad who, aside from making profits for themselves, have no projects to benefit the people. Once again, the rich get richer by taking the land of the [poor | less fortunate | people].
